Instructor: Ginger Line, MPA, CPPB - Sourcewell, Speaking on behalf of NCPP

This course takes you past the basics. It’s a way for your team to leverage real savings (in time and money) that a cooperative procurement strategy can bring to your organization. Learn innovative procurement tactics of other agencies, unveil approaches when emergencies arise, and plan the set of questions and analysis that is needed to conform with your own policies and how to educate your own internal teams (e.g. attorneys, City Council) on the benefits of moving to a cooperative contract. This interactive session also includes real examples and scenarios to help guide that decision process.

10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Break-out Session #4: Sustainable Procurement in U.S. Local Governments

Instructors: Ana-Maria Dimand, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Administration in the School of Public Service, Boise State University and Evelyn Trammell, Ph.D., Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Sunny Isles Beach

Public procurement is an essential function of local governments. As such, it is often used as a major policy tool to achieve goals and desirable outcomes for public organizations, and in the more recent socio-political environments, the procurement function has been employed to achieve sustainability in environmental, social, and economic aspects of communities. This presentation demonstrates current trends in sustainable procurement in local governments across North America, particularly within the United States. Specifically, it assesses supplier diversity and green procurement as major components of sustainable procurement initiatives. Based on survey responses, this presentation describes whether organizations participate in supplier diversity and green procurement, details the extent to which these policies are implemented, and outlines perceived challenges to policy implementation.
